A Vette Set Car Collection Activity was held on Saturday May 25, 2013. This was organized by new members Don & Marlis Popovich. We visited two Private Car Collections in Torrance and had lunch at Billy’s Deli. Our first stop was to view the Collection of Jerry (Ski) Flalkowski. Jerry began collecting cars after he purchased several raffle thickets and won the Grand Prize at Cursin for the Cure Cancer Event. The Grand Prize was a customized 32 Ford Roaster. Jerry and Chip Foose decided to turn this 32 Dearborn Roadster in to a Concept Car. They stripped the car down and returned the parts to Crusin for the Cure. Foose built the roadster into what it is today. He then signed the Roadster. Bothwell Automotive accomplished the engine work. This peaked Jerry’s interest and he stated his collection in 2007. Jerry collects special Cars, Motorcycles, Automotive Dealer and Miscellaneous Signs. Examples are, a 100 year old Motorcycle, a 1956 Chevrolet Bellaire with less than 400 actual miles, and Neon Dealer Signs from the 50’s/60’s. Jerry walked us through his collection and told us about each car. He also has a replica of a 1950’s Diner which adds to his collection and facility. Jerry recently retired and sold his Aerospace Business. Our second stop was to view the Collection of Jim Dahl. Jim began collecting cars in 1972. Jim started his collection with the purchase of a restored 1935 Dodge pickup. Jim’s main passion is 1950 and 1960 cars, although he has other years as well. Jim likes to collect cars that are in good condition. Jim has purchased cars which have been on Magazine covers with an article about the car. He has the magazine with those specific cars. Jim looks for opportunities to purchase specific cars he is interested in and attends car shows throughout the year. He rarely misses the quarterly Pomona shows. Jim had Jack Brennen; in his absence provide us with a discussion on each car. A Professional Painter, Jim started Dahl Painting in 1966. The business services the South Bay and surrounding areas. The attendees enjoyed the discussion on each individual car or item. The discussion and tour through each facility was fantastic. Excellent comments from the attendees. Vette Set attendees: Walt & Bonniegay Bacon, Jerry Forman, Chuck Hammer, Alan & Joann Miyamoto, Ken Morelock, Don & Marlis Popovich, Hal Vatcher, Jennifer Walton & Anton Wijenayake.
